ENTERING YOUR BIRDS IN TRIOS OR DISPLAYS AT A SHOW

WHAT ARE TRIOS AND DISPLAYS?

Trios:

1.     The trio may be a Young Trio (YT) or an Old Trio (OT).

2.      A Young Trio (YT) consists of a cockerel and 2 pullets.

An Old Trio (OT) consists of a cock and 2 hens.

The trios should contain of your top Cock or Cockerel. The 2 Hens or 2 Pullets should be identical in size and looks.

The birds are judged on individual merits as well as a matched set. Placing is based on a perfect set.

3.  If one of the trios judged as 1st trio contain the top bird in it’ s class, it can go on to be BB, BV,
Class Champion and further. (Example: If the cock in the OT is the best of it’ s breed in the class it can go
further, all the way to overall show champion).

BUT, this can only happen if the trio is judged as 1st. Trio. (If one of the birds in the 2nd trio happens to be the best bird it cannot go any further). If you have 2nd trio that is all that you get!

Displays:

A display consists of a cock, hen, cockerel & pullet, plus 3 other birds (any sex) of your choice in the same breed & variety.   Exception: If a display is offered at a show there are two sets of rules regarding entering displays in a show.   See below.

1.  If trios are offered at a show as well as displays your display must consist a trio. (See trios above)

Example: cock, hen, cockerel, pullet plus a trio. In other words, you must enter the trio class in order to be eligible to enter a display.

2.  If trios are not offered at a show, your display can consist of a cock, hen, cockerel, pullet plus any 3
other birds (any sex but the same variety) to complete the display.

Note: The scoring of displays is very important to winning a display award. Following are the points for winning a display award.

1st cock, hen, cockerel or pullet = 6 points for each 1st place bird you enter.

2nd cock, hen, cockerel or pullet = 4 points for each 2nd place bird you enter.

3rd cock, hen, cockerel or pullet = 3 points for each 3rd place bird you enter.

4th cock, hen, cockerel or pullet = 2 points for each 4th place bird you enter.

5th cock, hen, cockerel or pullet = 1 point for each 5th bird you enter.

Trios = double points for 1st trio = 12 points     2nd trio = 8 points and so forth.

The number of birds in the sex class multiplies these points. Example: if there are 10 cocks in the cock

class and your cock is 1st cock – he gets 6 points. This is multiplied by 10, which gives you a total of 60

points on that cock in the cock class. The same is done in the hens, cockerels and pullets.

The more birds you enter in that particular class the more points you will gain towards winning Champion Display. If you enter only 7 birds in that class and someone else enters 30 birds in that class, the chances are he will make more points because he will undoubtedly have more 1-2-3-4-5th place birds since

there are more to choose from.
